Our Purpose

President’s Message

I am humbled and honored the opportunity to serve as the first President of The University of Peradeniya Alumni Association of USA (UPAA-USA). Together with the dedicated capable team of the first Executive Committee, I am pleased to represent you, and work with you to support and strengthen our alumni association in the USA.  Though Alumni Association of the University of Peradeniya (AAUP) has many chapters in many countries, UPAA-USA is the first to officially start a chapter in the USA, which include past students, faculty and staff living in the entire USA. Kudos to our team.

I believe you all agree that we are privileged alumni who were lucky enough to study at one of the most beautiful University in the world. It touches the natural beauty of the lower slopes of the Hanthana Mountain Range in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The University culture, breathtaking environment, education received, interactions we had made us a unique set of professionals in USA with rich human qualities. Hence, wherever we live in the states and whatever stage we are in our career, it is imperative that we strengthen our ties to fellow alumni and the University.

The UPAA-USA provides an excellent opportunity and a strong platform for us to catch up with batch mates, faculty, staff and memories of days gone by, most importantly to appreciate the sense of attachment to our alma mater and support both financially as well as academically.

The association is now incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, registered as a non-profit organization and awaiting final approval from IRS for federal not-for-profit status.

The Executive Committee is planning several online and in person events/activities during the course of the year. Hope you will participate in these and enhance the connections that you develop with other alumni and with the University itself.  I invite all U of P alumnus/a living in USA to become a member of the Association, subscribe to our newsletter.

Please let us know if you have any ideas and suggestions for the Association or interested in becoming more involved in the committee and lead the activities.
